👉 On July 4, 1776, the 13 American colonies of Great Britain under the leadership of George Washington militarily defeated the English and proclaimed their independence. Thus the United States of America was born!

📜 The Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4, 1776 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, at the time the largest city of the thirteen colonies and since then defined as “The Cradle of Liberty”.

🗣️ As I often tell my Italian friends, Philadelphia collects the most important historical moments of the birth of the United States of America. By visiting “Independence Hall” you can take a leap back hundreds of years and imagine the constituent assembly that drafted the Declaration of Independence.

The Liberty Bell, a nearly 300-year-old bell originally located on the tower of Independence Hall, has become an emblem of freedom; little curiosity: during the “Fourth of July” day, they touch it thirteen times to open the celebrations of the solemnity.

🇺🇸 Even the American flag known around the world as “Old Glory” or “Stars and Stripes” was born in Philadelphia, designed by a local seamstress, Betsy Ross.

In the United States the national flag can be seen flying everywhere, from public places to home gardens; a tradition that comes alive even more on the occasion of the 4th of July.

🎉 Public parades, concerts, historical re-enactments, picnics, barbecues and fireworks complete all the celebrations of this national holiday, during which every friendly or family gathering is pervaded by a strong patriotic feeling.

👉 Il 4 luglio 1776 le 13 colonie americane della Gran Bretagna alla guida di George Washington sconfiggevano militarmente gli inglesi e proclamavano la loro indipendenza. Nascevano così gli Stati Uniti d’America!

📜 La Dichiarazione d’Indipendenza venne appunto firmata il 4 luglio 1776 a Philadelphia, in Pennsylvania, all’epoca la città più grande delle tredici colonie e da allora definita “The Cradle of Liberty”.

🗣️ Come spesso racconto agli amici italiani, Philadelphia raccoglie i momenti storici più importanti della nascita degli Stati Uniti d’America. Visitando la “Independence Hall” si può fare un salto di centinaia di anni e immaginare l’assemblea costituente atta a redigere la Dichiarazione d’Indipendenza.

La Liberty Bell, una campana di quasi 300 anni, situata originariamente sulla torre della Independence Hall, è diventata un emblema della libertà; piccola curiosità: durante la giornata del “Fourth of July”, la si tocca tredici volte per aprire le celebrazioni della solennità.

🇺🇸 Anche la bandiera americana conosciuta nel mondo come “Old Glory” o “Stars and Stripes” è nata a Philadelphia, disegnata da una sarta del luogo, Betsy Ross.

Negli Stati Uniti si vede sventolare ovunque la bandiera nazionale, dai luoghi pubblici ai giardini di casa; una tradizione che si ravviva ancora di più in occasione del 4 luglio.

🎉 Parate pubbliche, concerti, rievocazioni storiche, pic-nic, barbecue e fuochi d’artificio, completano tutte le celebrazioni di questa festa nazionale, durante la quale ogni riunione amichevole o familiare è pervasa da un forte sentimento patriottico.
